Advanced Filtering
This tutorial helps guide the user through the WLAN Controller Scanner Advanced filtering. This document will explain how to utilize the powerful filtering / customizable columns in the scanner section of the WLAN Controller program.
After logging into your WLAN Controller account, click the “Scanner” tab.
Default Columns
The default setting for the scanner to organize the wired/wireless signals is to group the data by SSID
The data can be organized by any of the parameters which are listed in each column. For example, if you wanted to group the data based on the distance of the signal, then you would right click the menu item and a drop down menu will appear.
Then you would select the “Group by Distance” Option and then the data would be grouped by the distance you are away from the signal.
The other options you have from this drop down menu are:
Sort Ascending
This option will sort the data starting with the smallest value and will increase to the largest value.
Sort Descending
This option will sort the data starting with the largest value and will decrease to the smallest value.
Auto Fit All Columns
This option will automatically change all the data field column’s widths to precisely fit around the data in the columns.
Auto Fit
This option will automatically change the selected data field’s column width to precisely fit around the data in that specific column.
Columns
This option will allow you to select which data fields that you want the ability to view. A checkmark denotes that the column will be shown in the spreadsheet, however if there isn’t a checkmark next to the column title, then that data will not be shown.
Group by . . .
The “group by” option will have the data sorted in rows based on the column data selected. For example, if you grouped by distance then the data would be grouped by distance in rows as well. There would also be headers above the data displaying a group name, which would be the value in the data field that the information was grouped by.
Ungroup
The “ungroup” option will have the data become unsorted. There will be no data grouped by row.
Powerful Filtering
This filtering algorithm is very powerful and allows the user many things that can help display the information in a format that the user feels comfortable with and this approach offers complete customization which tailors to the user’s specific needs.
Text Filtering
Above each column title is a text box which the user can input data that can filter the results. If you wish to filter by multiple columns you can input the results that you wish to find in each of the separate column text boxes and then select “Filter Now”. The results in the spreadsheet will only display the data that contains the text entered in the box above the column for that specific column.
Class Type
The only text box that doesn’t allow free text is the “Class Type” Text box. This box only allows drop-down menu options to be selected. Although there are default “Class Types” defined, there is customization available if the default class types do not include class types that you are accustomed to. Class types can be added by going to the “Configuration” option in the main menu bar.
Then select the “Classification” Tab, followed by the “Class Type” Tab.
From this menu, you will be able to add new class types to the class type configuration menu, allowing you to select this new class type from the list.
Type the class type in the “Class:” text box and then the Description of what the class type is in the “Description:” text box, and select Add class. This will enter the new class and Description into the list of Class Types, and can now be accessible from the spreadsheet.
Movable Columns
If you do not like how the default columns are arranged, then you have the ability to re-arrange the columns into the order which suites your needs. Simply select a column and keep it selected with the mouse, and drag it to where you would like to see the column moved to. This allows for the user to have extreme customization on the order in which the data is intended to be viewed.
Note: If you freeze a column you can move the frozen column within the other frozen columns but not with the unfrozen columns. Also, if the column is unfrozen it can only be moved along with the unfrozen columns and not the frozen columns.
Integrated Copy and Paste
The spreadsheet is designed in typical ASCII format, which allows the user to easily copy data from the spreadsheet and paste it into another document or program that the user wants to display the data.
